The McMillen Family Foundation

The mission of the McMillen Family Foundation is to provide assistance to eligible groups in Southern California which are dedicated to helping people of all ages who have been impacted, directly or indirectly, by alcohol and/or drugs and to provide community outreach and education to prevent alcohol and/or drug addiction before it starts.

About the McMillen Family Foundation

In 2002, a $5.3M pledge was made by Karl McMillen to open the Thelma McMillen Center at Torrance Memorial Hospital. Named after Mr. McMillen’s late wife, the Thelma McMillen Center houses a comprehensive outpatient program to treat chemical dependency. “My wife and I lost two sons to drugs and I had struggled with alcohol,” McMillen told a reporter. “This issue hits so close to home for me, I felt compelled to make a difference, and do something about it to help our community.”

About the McMillen Family Foundation

Today the Foundation supports the work of those organizations that serve individuals suffering from or affected by substance use. As heard from Karl McMillen to the directors and staff at every Board meeting, “We are blessed and we’re doing good work. I thank you, Carol thanks you, and most importantly the man or woman off the street thank you.”

Our Values
Karl McMillen built a very successful wholesale plumbing supply business consisting of nine highly respected facilities located in Southern California. That success was the result of hard work, honesty, integrity and a respect for both customers and employees.

Those same values guide the McMillen Family Foundation in providing support to nonprofit groups and agencies dedicated to improving the lives of those in need. We will give priority in funding to those nonprofits with a proven track record that share our values and produce tangible and measurable results consistent with our mission and values.

Currently the McMillen Family Foundation has made nearly $40 million in grants to over 90 non-profit entities whose mission is aligned with that of the Foundation.
